Inspire Youth to Join Armed Forces

Shillong, January 30, 2026: inspire youth to join armed forces, senior military officials urged ex‑servicemen at a gathering in Shillong to actively guide young people toward careers in defence services. The event also highlighted welfare schemes and support programmes available for veterans and their families.

Lieutenant General Mohit Wadhwa addressed participants at the 58 Gorkha Training Centre in Happy Valley, emphasising the importance of ex‑servicemen mentoring students, college graduates, and community members about recruitment procedures, career opportunities, and life in the armed forces.

The Rajya Sainik Board, in partnership with Headquarters 101 Area, organised the event to provide detailed information on pension benefits, resettlement support, healthcare schemes, and entrepreneurship programmes for ex‑servicemen. Attendees also received on-site medical consultations and guidance on welfare applications.

Officials highlighted the Ex‑Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme, rural banking assistance, and access to legal support. Representatives from the Army Recruiting Office presented current recruitment processes and eligibility requirements to aspiring candidates.

Veterans and their families were given opportunities to ask questions regarding benefits and future career prospects. The gathering reinforced the role of ex‑servicemen in connecting defence services with youth while promoting structured mentorship and community engagement.
