Shillong, Jan 17, 2026: The Meghalaya government has launched a new community skill program for students from Classes VI to X, aimed at combining academic lessons with practical learning. The initiative provides hands-on experience while connecting classroom studies with local trades, crafts, and community activities, making education more relevant to real-life needs.
Students will engage in projects that integrate traditional practices and local skills into subjects such as Health and Physical Education. This approach encourages creativity, problem-solving, and self-reliance, allowing students to gain both academic knowledge and practical abilities.

Teachers will receive training to guide students in selecting and completing projects, tracking progress, and developing life skills. Officials stated that the community skill program strengthens Meghalaya education by preparing students for future careers, promoting local culture, and making learning more interactive.
Private candidates who previously missed the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exams will also be eligible to participate, making the initiative inclusive for all students. By bridging classroom learning with community-based projects, the program ensures that students acquire knowledge that is both academically valuable and practically useful, supporting a strong foundation in practical learning.
