SHILLONG, Feb 1: Shillong Airport Expansion will move forward with the Meghalaya government ready to acquire additional land, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar confirmed. Officials stated that all land acquisition will follow legal procedures and provide fair compensation to landowners.
The airport upgrade includes extending the runway, improving terminal facilities, and enhancing cargo handling capacity. Authorities are coordinating with the Airports Authority of India to maintain construction schedules and comply with all regulatory requirements.
Dhar noted that surveys are being conducted to determine the exact land needed for the project. Environmental and social factors are being addressed to reduce any impact on local communities during the development process.
Officials said the expansion will increase operational capacity and improve passenger services at Shillong Airport. The project is part of broader state initiatives to strengthen regional connectivity and infrastructure.
