SHILLONG, January 25, 2026 — Meghalaya Taekwondo medals were proudly earned by young competitors from the state at the 2nd Federation Cup Taekwondo Championship 2026, staged in Jaipur, Rajasthan, as athletes delivered spirited performances against challengers from across India.
In a late‑January competition organised under the national framework of the Taekwondo Federation of India, Meghalaya’s contingent stood out in two separate categories, bringing home a pair of bronze awards and adding to the state’s growing presence in national martial arts circles.
The first podium result for Meghalaya came from Aaira Habib Wahlang, who secured a bronze medal in the Sub‑Junior Individual Female division. Competing against a strong field of athletes, Wahlang demonstrated resilience and technique that earned her a top‑three placing.
Another commendable showing was delivered by the duo of Larina Gainell Mawlong and Clifford Luiram in the Junior Pair Poomsae segment. Their coordinated routine impressed the judges and resulted in the second bronze achievement for the state’s team in the event.
Officials from the Taekwondo Federation of India, the sport’s official national governing body, confirm that the Federation Cup attracts competitors from multiple states and age groups, making podium finishes particularly meaningful for emerging athletes.
Trainers accompanying the Meghalaya athletes commended their dedication in preparation and performance under competitive pressure, noting this success could encourage more youth participation in martial arts across the region.
