TURA, Jan 12, 2026: The North Garo Hills MBoSE Concern has been raised by several community and youth groups in North Garo Hills district, following recent administrative changes affecting the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE). Local leaders said that transferring key educational responsibilities from MBoSE to the Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT) could reduce the board’s authority in approving textbooks and designing curricula for schools across the district and state.
Representatives in Bajengdoba explained that the North Garo Hills MBoSE Concern stems from the fear that weakening MBoSE’s role may affect curriculum quality and consistency, particularly in schools serving remote villages of North Garo Hills. MBoSE has traditionally ensured that learning materials reflect local culture and languages, which is important for students in the district.
Parents and teachers in Tura and nearby towns have also echoed the North Garo Hills MBoSE Concern, highlighting that students and administrators may face confusion if the changes are implemented without proper communication and guidance. Community leaders are urging the Meghalaya government to involve educators, parents, and local experts before finalising such decisions.
The organisations stressed that transparency and collaboration are essential to maintain trust in Meghalaya’s education system. They hope the administration will clarify how MBoSE and DERT will coordinate roles to avoid disruption in schools, ensuring students’ learning outcomes remain unaffected.
Local groups plan to continue dialogue with education authorities in Shillong, advocating for policies that balance administrative oversight with local participation, allowing students across North Garo Hills to receive quality education aligned with regional needs.
This development has sparked discussions throughout Tura and North Garo Hills communities, with parents, teachers, and civil society monitoring closely how the administrative changes will affect Meghalaya’s school system.
