Nul-Ding Kut Festival Brings Cultural Celebration and Development Plans to Saipung

Saipung, | Jan 13, 2026: The Nul-Ding Kut festival Saipung began this week, bringing together the Biate community to celebrate their traditional heritage and highlight local development initiatives. The festival featured colorful performances, rituals, and prayers for a successful harvest, making it a major cultural event in East Jaintia Hills.

During the opening ceremony, elders led prayers to bless the community with health, prosperity, and agricultural success. Performers of all ages presented traditional dances and songs, showcasing the Biate culture while emphasizing the importance of passing traditions to younger generations.

Officials, including the local MLA, attended the festival and made key announcements. A budget of Rs 10 lakh has been set aside for constructing a permanent venue for future Nul-Ding Kut festivals. This permanent venue will provide a dedicated space for celebrations and cultural programs. Additionally, Rs 260 crore has been earmarked to improve roads connecting Saipung with neighboring villages. The road upgrades are expected to enhance transportation, support trade, and improve access to education and healthcare for local residents.

Community leaders stressed the importance of celebrating cultural heritage while supporting development initiatives. They encouraged youth to participate in traditional activities and to contribute to the community’s growth.

The festival concluded with communal meals, handicraft exhibitions, and cultural shows. Residents expressed appreciation for the government’s efforts to preserve culture and invest in infrastructure. The Nul-Ding Kut festival Saipung continues to strengthen community bonds, promote cultural pride, and encourage local development.
