SBI Shillong Celebrates 100 Years, MP Calls for Better Financial Access in Meghalaya

SBI Shillong 100 Years

SHILLONG, Jan 12, 2026: The SBI Shillong 100 Years milestone was marked today with celebrations at the branch in the heart of Shillong. Officials, bank employees, and community members attended the event to acknowledge the branch’s long-standing contribution to the local economy and society. During the ceremony, a Member of Parliament highlighted that while the branch has served the community for a century, several areas in Meghalaya still face challenges in accessing banking services.

The MP stressed that residents in remote parts of East Khasi Hills, Ri-Bhoi, and surrounding districts often lack easy access to financial services. He encouraged banks to strengthen outreach programs, enhance financial literacy, and make digital banking tools more accessible to underserved communities.

Local leaders at the event reflected on the branch’s role in supporting small businesses, farmers, students, and local institutions over the past 100 years. Bank representatives shared plans to expand services and improve facilities, ensuring that even rural areas benefit from modern banking infrastructure.

The centenary celebration also included a showcase of historical photographs, highlighting key moments in the branch’s history, along with cultural performances by students and local groups. Residents and officials expressed optimism that improved financial access would empower communities across Meghalaya, enabling more people to participate in economic development while maintaining strong ties to local institutions.
