SHILLONG, Jan 31: Shillong MP Bangla Border Inspection was carried out across remote stretches of the India–Bangladesh international boundary in Meghalaya where the Member of Parliament conducted an on-site review of fencing work and interacted with residents of adjoining villages. The visit covered sections near Jaliakhola Sankhat and surrounding localities to assess construction status and public concerns linked to border infrastructure.
During the field inspection, villagers informed the MP about incomplete fencing segments, limited access routes to agricultural land, and delays related to boundary measurement processes. Community representatives also pointed out movement difficulties faced by residents whose traditional pathways fall close to the alignment of the international border.
Officials accompanying the inspection reviewed demarcation points, construction markers, and terrain-specific challenges such as river crossings, forest patches, and hilly sections that affect work progress. Security personnel briefed the delegation on ongoing coordination measures between local authorities and border management agencies.
The review further included an assessment of essential facilities in the border belt, including rural road connectivity, street lighting, and communication coverage. Local councils submitted requests for clearer notification procedures regarding land boundaries and compensation matters linked to infrastructure development.
Authorities indicated that observations from the Shillong MP Bangla Border Inspection would be compiled and shared with relevant departments for necessary follow-up actions concerning fencing implementation and basic infrastructure support in interior border villages of Meghalaya.
