Balat, March 3, 2026: The final match of the Umsawrang Knockout Football Tournament 2025-26 concluded with Syiemlieh FC defeating MLP FT in a tie-breaker at the Umsawrang football field on Monday.
The match marked the grand finale of the Umsawrang Knockout Football Tournament Championship 2025-26, organised by the Umsawrang Sports Club & Youth Welfare Organisation. The championship was conducted as an open invitation knockout tournament and drew participation from competitive teams across the region.
Both teams demonstrated strong performance and coordination throughout the final. In the first half, Syiemlieh FC and MLP FT scored one goal each, taking the match to a 1-1 draw before halftime. The second half witnessed continued pressure from both sides, with attempts to break the deadlock, but neither team managed to score during regular time.
With the score remaining level at the final whistle, the Syiemlieh FC vs MLP FT Final Match 2025-26 proceeded to a tie-breaker. In the decisive shootout, Syiemlieh FC edged past the Meghalaya Police team by a one-goal margin, clinching the championship title.
The final of the Umsawrang Knockout Football Tournament Championship 2025-26 was attended by Meghalaya Minister of Sports & Youth Affairs Shri. Wailadmiki Shylla and Mawsynram MLA Shri. Ollan Singh Suin. Both dignitaries participated in the prize distribution ceremony and congratulated the players from both teams for their sporting spirit.
A large crowd gathered at the Umsawrang football field to witness the final. Spectators from East Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills districts, particularly from the border frontier belt areas, were seen arriving early to purchase tickets and secure seats.
Lucky draw tickets were also made available for spectators, and many attendees were seen purchasing them before the match began. The timing of the final coincided with the weekly Balat Bazaar market day, contributing to a significant turnout as many residents who had come for marketing activities also attended the match.
The event concluded peacefully without any reported incidents. However, after the match ended, heavy traffic congestion was observed in and around Balat Bazaar, with vehicles stranded for a couple of hours due to the large number of people dispersing at the same time.
