Pyndenborsora Local Bridge Construction to Ease Travel for Residents, Travellers and Students in Meghalaya Border Area

Pyndenborsora Local Bridge Construction

Balat, April 15: The construction of the Pyndenborsora Local Bridge is in progress and is expected to be completed before the onset of the monsoon season, offering much-needed relief to residents of the area.

The Pyndenborsora Local Bridge Construction project is being carried out over a small stream that frequently overflows during heavy rainfall, causing disruptions for people living in Pyndenborsora and nearby Tilagaon village. As a low-lying area, water from surrounding hills, forests, and paddy fields flows down and accumulates at this point, leading to flooding and making movement difficult for commuters and travellers.

This bridge is located within Pyndenborsora village along the route that leads to Tilagaon village, the Border Security Force (BSF) camp at Tilagaon, and the International Balat Border Haat, making it an important link for both residents and security personnel. This village is located under the Mawsynram Block in East Khasi Hills District Meghalaya.

During the monsoon season, those travelling towards the border areas often face serious challenges due to rising water levels. The route serves as an important connection not only for local residents but also for access to key locations such as the Balat Border Haat and the BSF camp. Security personnel and civilians regularly use this road, and flooding creates obstacles for movement and daily operations.

Villagers depend on this route for essential activities including marketing, shopping, attending schools, offices, and daily wage work. Among those most affected are school students, who are often forced to cross the flooded stream to attend classes. At times, when the water level rises to unsafe levels, students are unable to go to school and have to miss classes.

The bridge is considered a lifeline for the residents of Tilagaon and surrounding areas, as well as for personnel stationed at the BSF camp and those associated with the Border Haat located beyond the stream. Once completed, the Pyndenborsora Local Bridge Construction is expected to ensure safer and uninterrupted connectivity, especially during the rainy season.

The route is also used by visitors, including tourists and content creators, who travel to the international border area. However, flooding during the monsoon often creates inconvenience for such visitors as well.

With the bridge nearing completion, local residents and regular commuters are hopeful that it will address long-standing issues caused by seasonal flooding and improve overall connectivity in the region.
